Laptop randomly turns off ? Soluation:

This is often due to:
  • AC power adaptor sensing an overload of power drain
  • Overheating processor due to a build of internal dust (clogged fan)
  • AC power adaptor not able to sustain normal power needs (faulty power adaptor)
  • Battery overheating, due to internal battery fault, or charging levels
  • Intermittent short circuit or open connection (check condition of power leads)
On older Laptops, the most common reason is poor cooling. Try going somewhere air-conditioned and see if that helps. Inspect the areas near the internal cooling fan; see if there is a build up of dust fibres. Easy way to check this; with the unit running, feel the flow of air from the cooling outlet(s) - is the airflow very low? If yes, and the unit is at normal operation temperature, this may indicate the internal cooling system is partially clogged.

Refire: Liquid Spills on Laptop

I have repaired many Laptops exposed to accidental liquid spills. This is a recoverable condition in most cases. It is most important to respond to the cleaning up process as soon as possible (before corrosion or internal soakage occur)! Liquid intrusion can cause the following types of laptop damage:
  • Short circuit due to conductive nature of wet liquid (problem may clear as liquid dries)
  • Short circuit due to dried liquid residue
  • Corrosion occurs (particularly volatile with some acidic soft drinks - Coke)
  • Electronic components damaged by above short circuits
Immediately when a spill occurs, turn off the laptop, invert the laptop and leave the unit upside down (drainage) for at least 20-30 minutes. Then, remove any attached leads, remove the power unit and battery, and allow the unit to air-dry overnight.

To remove any liquid residual: Have someone remove the keyboard assembly and perform additional cleaning. It may help to use cotton buds and distilled water to remove any contamination. Where corrosive side effects may be suspected (with coke), gently rub any suspect areas with a cotton bud dampened with CRC or WD-40. Dry the treated areas so that only a light film of the WD-40 anti-corrosive solution remains. While the keyboard is removed, use a bright light and magnifying lens to inspect areas where the liquid made contact.

Best smartphones you can buy right now: June-July 2015

With so many different (yet similar) smartphones from so many brands from across the globe, one may start feeling a bit lost. Which one of those many is the best phone you can buy right now?

Luckily, at this time of the year, there is no reason to complain much as the best Android phones are now available: the Samsung Galaxy S6, LG G4 and HTC One M9 are now on store shelves, and their presence alone obliterates many of the earlier Android devices.

There is no definite one-size-fits-all devce, though, and that's why we explore all the options, trying to help you narrow down the choice to some outstanding devices that we think won't disappoint you. We're also breaking them down by categories: after all some people prefer a large, phablet-sized device, while others may want a more conventionally-sized pocket sidekick. We don't go into all that much detail (for those details, make sure to read our in-depth reviews), but we do focus on the most important highlights. With no further ado, here are the best phones you can buy right now.

The Samsung Galaxy S6 has finally arrived: a 5.1-inch beauty, it is made of two pieces of Gorilla Glass 4 on the back and front, and a sturdy metal frame in the middle. Gone are the times of disappointing, plastic top-level smartphones from Samsung. Some changes have been made: the Galaxy S6 does not support a microSD card slot, a replaceable battery, or water-protection, but as strong as feeling are about some of these changes, they are likely not going to be a deal-breaker for most. In exchange for those compromises, you get a very slim and good looking phone, an extremely powerful Exynos 7420 system chip, an excellent 16-megapixel main camera, and probably the best AMOLED screen so

Apple iPhone 6

The Apple iPhone 6 is the world's best-selling smartphone at the moment, and it will certainly break quite a few records in sales. Apple has created a brand universally known for making reliable, extremely stylish devices, and by finally going to that slightly larger screen size that many people have been craving, the iPhone 6 hits all the right spots.

The sleek aluminum body measuring just 0.27 inches also feels fantastically well-made. Under the hood, you have the most powerful system chip of a smartphone in the form of the dual-core Apple A8 (with single-core performance nearly double that of Android rivals), excellent graphics, and a camera that captures great-looking images in various conditions. Add to this the rich iOS ecosystem that continues to secure the best apps and games first, and one starts to understand the appeal of the iPhone 6.

A UN report revealed that the number of people displaced by war, conflict or persecution reached a record high of nearly 60 million around the world in 2014. The continuing conflict in Syria, from where this man and his daughter are attempting to flee to Turkey, is seen as a major factor behind the record numbers.

Events to mark the 200th anniversary of the Battle of Waterloo took part in Belgium. The battle was fought after French emperor Napoleon escaped from exile on the Mediterranean island of Elba and led his troops against the combined allied forces at Waterloo on 15 June 1815. Following the battle a defeated Napoleon was exiled to the island of Saint Helena, where he died in 1821.

Venus, Jupiter on beautiful "collision" course 2015

Stargazers this weekend are in for a treat.
Venus and Jupiter have been drawing nearer to each other in the sky all month. Friday and Saturday, after dusk, they will appear to come together and will most likely the brightest objects in the sky, after the sun and moon.
On the evenings of June 19th and 20th, stargazers will find Venus soon after sunset well up in the west. Jupiter will be about 6 degrees to its upper left, though only one-twelfth as bright. (They'll both be to the lower right of Regulus, the alpha star of the constellation Leo.)
The view will be most dramatic on the 20th, when the two planets and the moon will be bunched closely enough to be covered by an outstretched fist.
While they look to be bumping into one another, they are actually far apart. The moon is closest to us, just 247,000 miles away. Venus is 56 million miles from Earth, and Jupiter is 10 times farther out at just over 550 million miles.
A second, even more dramatic event occurs on June 30th, when Venus and Jupiter will appear so close together - just 1/3 of a degree apart - that they'll look like a tight, brilliant double star in the evening sky. A small backyard telescope will show both planets in the same field of view.
Jupiter and Venus spend eight evenings within 2 degrees of each other - about a thumb's width at arm's length - from June 27th through July 4th.
"Planetary conjunctions have no effect on Earth or human affairs," notes Sky & Telescope Senior Editor Alan MacRobert, "except for one: They can lift our attention away from our own little world into the enormous things beyond. That's what amateur astronomers do all the time. A spectacular conjunction like this often gets people started in the hobby. Once you start, there's no end to how far you can go."
The two planets have a history of dancing together - and will do so in the future.
They appeared slightly closer together before dawn on August 18, 2014, and they'll be separated by about 1 degree before dawn on the morning of October 26th.
Sky & Telescope Contributing Editor Fred Schaaf points out that this current string of Venus-Jupiter conjunctions closely resembles a similar series beetween the years 3 and 2 B.C. It has been suggested that their joint appearance might have been what came to be known as the Star of Bethlehem.
