AMD Announces Next-gen Radeon HD 7970

AMD and NVIDIA have always been in a deadlock when competing in the graphics card market. And just recently, AMD has up the ante, in which they have unveiled their latest technological marvel, dubbed as the Radeon HD 7970. Basically, the Radeon HD 7970 features AMD’s 28nm GPU, and this is the very first AMD graphics card that would be based on the architecture.

The Radeon HD 7970 packs a 925MHz engine clock, and it can be further overclocked to 1.1GHz. The Radeon HD 7970 has 2,048 stream processors, and runs on the 384-bit memory bus that is equipped with 3GB of GDDR5. Also, AMD has made the Radeon HD 7970 more practical when compared to the dual-core 6990, whereby the Radeon HD 7970 consumes less power at 300W, and it only takes in 3W when in long-idle mode. Well, NVIDIA is also anxiously waiting to show their 28nm Kepler GPU – we’ll see who performs better.
